Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Pontiac G5 and 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

    IMPORTANT: Do not use any sealing material.
  1. Install the cylinder head gasket to the block.
  2. Install the cylinder head.

    IMPORTANT: Always use new cylinder head bolts.
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE .
  4. Install and tighten the cylinder head bolts in sequence.

    Tighten: 

    • Tighten the bolts to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
    • Then turn all the bolts 155 degrees in sequence. Use the J 45059  .

  6. Install the front cylinder head bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the cylinder head bolts to 35 N.m (26 lb ft).

  8. Install the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cover, bolts, and the EGR cover gasket.

    Tighten:  Tighten the EGR cover bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
