Circuit/System Verification
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Pontiac G5 and 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Automatic Transmission (MN5)
- Ignition ON, transmission in park, observe the scan tool ECM PNP Switch parameter. The reading should be Park/Neutral.
- If not the specified value, refer to PNP Switch Circuit Malfunction in Circuit/System Testing .
- Command the Starter Relay ON with a scan tool (L61/LNF), or turn the ignition switch to the START position (LE5). The starter solenoid should engage and the engine should crank.
- If the solenoid engages but the engine does not crank, refer to Starter Solenoid Clicks, Engine Does Not Crank .
- If the solenoid does not engage, refer to CRNK Relay Circuit Malfunction in Circuit/System Testing .
Manual Transmission (M86/MU3)
- Ignition ON, observe the scan tool ECM CPP Sensor and the CPP Learn Status parameters. The scan tool CPP Sensor parameter should change when the clutch pedal is pressed and released, and the CPP Learn Status should be Complete.
- If not the specified values, refer to the appropriate procedure listed below:
- Clutch Pedal Position Sensor Learn for the Getrag (M86) transmission
- Clutch Pedal Position Sensor Learn for the Saab (MU3) transmission
- If not the specified values, refer to the appropriate procedure listed below:
- Command the Starter Relay ON with a scan tool (L61/LNF), or turn the ignition switch to the START position (LE5). The starter solenoid should engage and the engine should crank.
- If the solenoid engages but the engine does not crank, refer to Starter Solenoid Clicks, Engine Does Not Crank .
- If the solenoid does not engage, refer to CRNK Relay Circuit Malfunction in Circuit/System Testing .
