Circuit/System Testing

  1. With the ignition OFF, inspect the crankshaft balancer bolt for the proper torque. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .
  2. Remove the intake CMP actuator solenoid. Refer to Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Replacement .
  3. Connect a jumper wire between the high control circuit of the CMP actuator solenoid and battery voltage. Connect a jumper wire between the low reference circuit of the CMP actuator solenoid and a good ground. The pintle of the solenoid should move.
    • If the pintle inside the CMP actuator solenoid does not move, replace the CMP actuator solenoid.
  4. Inspect the intake CMP actuator for binding or being stuck.
  5. Inspect the engine for correct valve timing. Refer to Timing Chain, Sprockets, and/or Tensioner Replacement .
