Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Pontiac G5 Pursuit, 2007 Pontiac G5, and 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install the J 44394  into the transaxle output shaft seal. See Special Tools .

  3. Install the wheel drive shaft into the transaxle until the drive shaft splines are past the seal, remove the J 44394  , then fully install the drive shaft. See Special Tools .
  4. Verify that the wheel drive shaft is properly engaged:
    • Grasp the inner tripod housing and pull the inner housing outward. Do NOT pull on the wheel drive axle shaft.
    • The wheel drive shaft will remain firmly in place when properly engaged.

  6. Install the wheel drive shaft (1) to the wheel bearing/hub assembly.
  7. Connect the ball joint to the steering knuckle. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement .
  8. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  9. Install the wheel drive shaft nut (3) to the wheel drive shaft assembly (1).

    Tighten:  Tighten the nut to 210 N.m (155 lb ft).

  10. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (4 Lug Wheel) or Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (5 Lug Wheel) .
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Inspect the transaxle fluid level.
