Installation Procedure

  1. Install the universal spring (1) to the brake backing plate.

  3. Position the hook end of the J 38400  (1) under the universal spring and lightly pull the universal spring end out, away from the hub, while installing the spring end into the shoe web hole. See Special Tools .

  5. Position the hook end of the J 38400  (1) under the universal spring and lightly pull the universal spring end out, away from the hub, while installing the spring end into the shoe web hole. See Special Tools .
  6. Install the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement .
  7. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (4 Lug Wheel) or Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (5 Lug Wheel) .
  8. Lower the vehicle.
