Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Pontiac G5 Pursuit, 2007 Pontiac G5, and 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

  1. Insert the park brake cable through the cable bracket on the caliper.
  2. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  3. Install the rear park brake cable guide (3) retaining bolt (2).

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  4. Secure the cable fitting to the cable bracket. Ensure that the retaining tabs (4) are fully seated.
  5. Install the cable end (1) to the caliper park brake lever.
  6. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (4 Lug Wheel) or Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (5 Lug Wheel) .

  8. Insert the cable through the opening in the vehicle underbody.
  9. Install the C-shaped retainer (1) on the park brake cable into the bracket at the rear axle trailing arm pivot.
  10. Install and secure park brake cable pass-thru grommet (3) to the opening in the vehicle underbody.
  11. If a new park brake cable is being installed, secure the underbody retainer (2) to the vehicle underbody.
  12. If the park brake cable is being reused, install the park brake cable to the underbody retainer (2) and press the tab into place to secure.
  13. Lower the vehicle.

  15. Secure the cable fitting (2) to the park brake lever bracket (1). Attempt to pull the park brake cable free of the lever bracket, to ensure that the retaining tabs on the fitting are properly secured.
  16. Install the cable end (3) to the cable equalizer.
  17. Reposition the carpet to the installed position.
  18. Install the rear carpet retainers. Refer to Rear Carpet Retainer Replacement .
  19. Install the rear seat lower cushion. Refer to Rear Seat Cushion Replacement .
  20. Adjust the park brake cable tension. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment (Disc)  or Park Brake Adjustment (Drum) .
  21. Install the front floor console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
