Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Pontiac G5 Pursuit, 2007 Pontiac G5, and 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    IMPORTANT: Prevent the crankshaft from rotating clockwise or counterclockwise before using compressed air in the cylinder. Rotation of the crankshaft may cause damage to the J 43653  .
  1. If equipped with a manual transmission, leave the transmission in first gear with the vehicle on the ground and the parking brake set.
  2. If equipped with an automatic transmission, remove the starter. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement (RPOs L61/LE5) .
  3. Install the J 43653  .
  4. Remove the camshaft. Refer to Intake Camshaft and Lifter Replacement  or Exhaust Camshaft and Lifter Replacement .

  6. Remove the camshaft roller followers.

  8. Install the J 43649  to the cylinder head.
  9. Remove the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement .

  11. Install an air hose adaptor into the spark plug hole.
  12. Pressurize the cylinder to 690 kPa (100 psi).
  13. Compress the valve spring.
  14. Remove the valve spring keepers.
  15. Remove the valve spring.

  17. Using the J 36017  remove the valve seal.
