Fuel Gage Inaccurate or Inoperative

  1. Connect a scan tool.
  2. Check for engine control diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
Is the vehicle speed sensor DTC set?
- Go to Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls in Engine Controls - 1.6L or Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls in Engine Controls - 1.8L or Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls in Engine Controls - 2.0L Go to Step 2

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect engine control module (ECM) connector.
  3. Remove the instrument cluster.
  4. Measure continuity between ECM terminal K30 (HV Type: B31, Sirius D4: 40) and the instrument cluster terminal B3.
Does the ohmmeter indicate the specified value?
0 Ω Go to Step 4  Go to Step 3 
3 Repair the open circuit between the instrument cluster connector terminal B3 and the ECM terminal K30 (HV Type: B31, Sirius D4: 40).
Is the repair complete?
- System OK -
4 Replace the fuel gage.
