Transmission Control Module Replacement

Callout Component Name

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Remove the left front fender. Refer# to Front Fender Replacement .
  2. Reposition the windshield washer solvent container. Refer# to Washer Solvent Container Replacement .
1 Electronic Control Module (ECM)
Tip:  Remove the ECM from the ECM bracket but do not disconnect the ECM electrical connectors.
2 ECM Bracket Bolt (Qty: 3)
NOTE: Refer# to Fastener Notice .

Tighten:  10 N.m (89 lb in)

3 ECM Bracket
4 Transmission Control Module (TCM) Bolt (Qty: 3)

Tighten:  10 N.m (89 lb in)

5 TCM
IMPORTANT: Twisting or tilting of the transmission control module electrical connector while disconnecting may result in bent or misaligned electrical terminal pins.

Tip: 
  • Disconnect the TCM electrical connector.
  • A new TCM requires programming. Refer# to Control Module References .
  • It is recommended that transmission adaptive pressure (TAP) information be reset. Resetting the TAP values using a scan tool will erase all learned values in all cells. As a result, The ECM, PCM or TCM will need to relearn TAP values. Transmission performance may be affected as new TAP values are learned. Reset the TAP values. Refer# to Transmission Adaptive Functions .
