Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to the following procedures in SIR:
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (7.0L) in Engine Electrical.
  3. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Assembly Replacement .
  4. Remove the upper and lower nuts retaining the steering column to the steering column bracket. Carefully rest the steering column on the I/P lower support beam. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.

  5. Remove the accelerator pedal assembly with the accelerator pedal position sensor.
  6. Disconnect the brake master cylinder push rod from the brake pedal.
  7. Remove the brake booster mounting nuts.

  8. Remove the mounting bolts from the cruise control release switch bracket.
  9. Reposition the cruise control release switch and the bracket.

  10. Disconnect the master cylinder push rod from the clutch pedal.

    IMPORTANT: The following step ensures proper trim fit during installation.
  11. Mark the location of the steering column bracket.
  12. Remove the bolts which secure the steering column bracket to the I/P lower support beam.

  13. Remove the bolts which secure the steering column bracket to the I/P upper support beam.
  14. Remove the steering column bracket.
