Removal Procedure

    CAUTION: Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Caution in Cautions and Notices.
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to the following procedures in SIR:
  2. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) assembly. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Assembly Replacement .
  3. Remove the outlet duct from the right side window defogger.

  5. Release the I/P harness retainer from the passenger SIR bracket.
  6. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the SIR module electrical connector.
  7. Release the electrical connector retainer from the SIR bracket.
  8. Disconnect the SIR module electrical connector.
  9. IMPORTANT: The following steps are important to ensure proper trim fit during installation.
  10. Mark the location of the knee bolster bracket.
  11. Remove the bolts (3) retaining the knee bolster bracket to the center support bracket.
  12. Remove the air distribution duct. Refer to Air Distribution Duct Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  13. Mark the location of the SIR bracket.
  14. Remove the bolts (2) mounting the SIR bracket to the I/P lower support beam.
  15. Remove the bolts (1) mounting the SIR bracket to the I/P upper support beam.
  16. Remove the SIR bracket.

  18. Mark the location of the SIR module in the SIR bracket.
  19. Remove the SIR module retaining nuts (3).
  20. Remove the SIR module (1) from the SIR bracket (2).

  22. Remove the mounting bolts from the knee bolster bracket.
  23. Remove the knee bolster bracket.
