Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement in Interior Trim.
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 4.3L.
  3. Remove the positive crankcase ventilation hose from the valve rocker arm cover.

  5. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) gage sensor electrical connector.
  6. Remove the ECT gage sensor connector from the bracket.
  7. Remove the spark plug wires for the left side of the engine from the distributor cap.
  8. Remove the air conditioning compressor discharge hose, if equipped. Refer to Discharge Hose Replacement (4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L ) in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  9. Remove the air conditioning compressor suction hose, if equipped. Refer to Suction Hose Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.

  11. Remove the valve rocker arm cover bolts.

  13. Remove the valve rocker arm cover.
