Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Remove the engine oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement .
  2. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  3. Remove the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (4.3L Engine) or Water Pump Replacement (4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L Engines) in Engine Cooling.
  4. Remove the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor. Refer to Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls.

  6. Remove the crankshaft position sensor seal (O-ring).
  7. Discard the crankshaft position sensor seal (O-ring).

  9. Remove the engine front cover bolts.
  10. IMPORTANT: After the composite engine front cover is removed do not reinstall the engine front cover. Always install a NEW engine front cover.
  11. Remove the engine front cover.
  12. Discard the engine front cover.
  13. Clean all sealing surfaces.
