Installation Procedure

  1. Adjust the rear brakes. Refer to Drum Brake Adjustment .

    IMPORTANT: Slide the brake drum straight on the spindle. Use care in order to properly position the wheel bearings and the drum on the spindle.
  3. Install the brake drum to the spindle.

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  5. Install the lock ring and the caulking nut to the spindle.

    Tighten:  Tighten the nut to 200 N.m (148 lb ft).

  6. Stake the lock ring to the nut.
  7. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. IMPORTANT: If the clicking sound of the adjuster is not audible from either brake drum, the clearance between the brake shoes and the brake drum is adjusted.
  10. Apply the brake pedal at least 10 times.

    Verify the clicking sound of the adjuster assembly is not audible from either brake drum.

  11. Adjust the park brake. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment .
