Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the powertrain module from the vehicle. Refer to Engine Replacement .
  2. Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement - Lower .
  3. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe. Refer to Exhaust Crossover Pipe Replacement (RPOs L26/L32) or Exhaust Crossover Pipe Replacement (RPO LY7) in Engine Exhaust.
  4. Remove the right bank secondary timing chain. Refer to Secondary Camshaft Drive Chain Replacement - Right .

  6. Remove the wiring harness ground from the rear of the cylinder head.

  8. Remove the wiring harness ground from the front of the cylinder head.

  10. Remove the wiring harness conduit upper bolt from the cylinder head and reposition the wiring harness to provide access.

  12. Remove the cylinder head with the exhaust manifold. Refer to Cylinder Head Removal - Right .

  14. Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket.
  15. Clean and inspect the cylinder head and the engine block sealing surfaces. Refer to Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection and Engine Block Cleaning and Inspection .
