Door Ajar Indicator Malfunction

1 Did you perform the Door Systems Diagnostic System Check? Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Door Systems 
2 Verify that the door ajar indicator malfunction fault is present.
Does the door ajar indicator operate normally?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 3 
3 Is the door ajar indicator on all the time? Go to Step 4  Go to Step 8

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Close all of the doors.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the driver door open switch and the door ajar switches parameters in the Body Control Module data list.
Does the scan tool display Open for either of the parameters?
Go to Step 5  Go to Step 16 
5 Was the Open parameter the driver door open Switch parameter? Go to Step 6  Go to Step 7

  1. With a scan tool, observe the driver door open switch parameter in the Body Control Module data list.
  2. Disconnect the driver door lock C1 harness connector.
Does the scan tool display Closed when the harness connector is disconnected?
Go to Step 17  Go to Step 11

  1. With a scan tool, observe the door ajar switches parameter in the Body Control Module data list.
  2. Disconnect each of the passenger door lock C1 harness connectors, one at a time.
Does the scan tool display Closed when any of the harness connectors is disconnected?
Go to Step 17  Go to Step 12 
8 Is the door ajar indicator inoperative from the driver door? Go to Step 9  Go to Step 10

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the driver door lock C1 harness connector.
  3. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the driver door ajar switch signal circuit of the driver door lock C1 harness connector and the ground circuit of the driver door lock C1 harness connector.
Does the door ajar indicator illuminate?
Go to Step 13  Go to Step 14

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the appropriate passenger door lock C1 harness connector.
  3. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire between the secondary door latch switch signal circuit of the appropriate passenger door lock C1 harness connector and the ground circuit of the appropriate passenger door lock C1 harness connector.
Does the door ajar indicator illuminate?
Go to Step 13  Go to Step 15 
11 Test the driver door ajar switch signal circuit of the driver door lock C1 harness connector for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 22  Go to Step 18 
12 Test the secondary door latch switch signal circuit of the appropriate door lock C1 harness connector for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 22  Go to Step 18 
13 Test the ground circuit of the appropriate door lock for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 22  Go to Step 17 
14 Test the driver door ajar switch signal circuit of the driver door lock C1 harness connector for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 22  Go to Step 18 
15 Test the secondary door latch switch signal circuit of the appropriate door lock C1 harness connector for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 22  Go to Step 18 
16 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connectors of the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 22  Go to Step 19 
17 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connectors of the appropriate door lock switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 22  Go to Step 20 
18 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connectors of the body control module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 22  Go to Step 21 
19 Replace the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 22  -
20 Replace the appropriate door lock switch. Refer to Lock Replacement - Front Door (Impala) Lock Replacement - Front Door (Monte Carlo)  or Lock Replacement - Rear Door (Impala)  .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 22  -

  1. Perform the setup procedure for the body control module. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.
  2. Replace the body control module. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 22  -
22 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 2
