Installation Procedure

  1. Position the I/P lower trim panel to the vehicle.
  2. Position the I/P wiring harness to the original location on the I/P assembly.
  3. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  4. Install the large I/P lower trim panel screws in the order shown in the graphic.

    Tighten:  Tighten the screws to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  6. Install the small I/P lower trim panel screws.

    Tighten:  Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

  8. Connect the right I/P fuse block wiring harness.

  10. Install the right I/P insulator. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Right .
  11. Install the inflatable restraint I/P module. Connect the electrical connector to the inflatable restraint I/P module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  12. Position the I/P upper trim pad to the upper I/P.

    Install the I/P insulator retainers to the I/P upper trim pad.

  13. Reach under the I/P upper trim pad and position the RKE wiring harness through the I/P upper trim pad opening. Install the RKE module. Connect the electrical connector to the RKE module.
  14. Install the I/P upper trim pad screws.

    Tighten: 

    • Tighten the horizontal I/P upper trim pad screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).
    • Tighten the vertical I/P upper trim pad screws to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  16. Install the right lower I/P trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Lower .
  17. Install the right upper I/P trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper .
  18. Install the I/P compartment. Refer to Compartment Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) .

  20. Position the I/P upper trim panel to the vehicle. Connect the daytime running lamps (DRL) sensor to the I/P upper trim panel.
  21. IMPORTANT: Do NOT pinch the DRL sensor wiring harness when you install the I/P upper trim panel.
  22. Starting at the left side, install the trim panel retainers into the upper I/P. Continue working to your right until you have installed all of the retainers.

  24. Connect the left fuse block wiring harness.

  26. Install the garnish moldings to the right and to the left windshield pillar. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Impala) or Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Monte Carlo) in Interior Trim.
  27. Install the I/P cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement .

  29. Install the data link connector.

    Tighten:  Tighten the data link connector screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

  31. Push the hood release handle through the opening in the I/P. Connect the hood latch release handle. Refer to Hood Latch Release Handle Replacement in Body Front End.
  32. Connect the headlamp switch electrical connector. Install the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  33. Connect the floor console storage bin lamp, if equipped.

  35. Install the HVAC control module. Refer to HVAC Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC Systems-Manual.
  36. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  37. Install the ignition switch to the I/P.
  38. Install the ignition switch bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  40. Position the I/P cluster trim plate to the I/P lower trim panel.
  41. Connect the electrical connector to the hazard switch.
  42. Carefully press the I/P cluster trim plate into the I/P lower trim panel. Fully engage all of the retainers.
  43. Install the I/P cluster trim plate screws.

    Tighten:  Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

  45. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  46. Align the knee bolster bracket to the I/P. Install the knee bolster bracket bolts at the I/P carrier in the sequence shown.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  47. Install the bolts that secure the driver I/P knee bolster to the I/P lower trim panel.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

  48. Install the knee bolster bracket screws.

    Tighten:  Tighten the screws to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  50. Install the steering column filler panel. Refer to Steering Column Filler Replacement .

  52. Position the left I/P insulator to the vehicle. Install the left I/P insulator to the stud at the accelerator pedal.
  53. Rotate the courtesy lamp clockwise in order to connect the courtesy lamp to the left I/P insulator.
  54. Install the left I/P insulator tabs to the lower I/P trim pad.
  55. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in SIR.
  56. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
