Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Replacement (Single Tank)  or Fuel Tank Replacement (Single Tank w/5.3L (L59) Engine)  or Fuel Tank Replacement (Dual Tanks - Front)  or Fuel Tank Replacement (Dual Tanks - Rear) .
  2. Disconnect fuel and evaporative emission (EVAP) lines from the fuel tank module. Refer to Quick Connect Fitting(s) Service (Plastic Collar) .
    IMPORTANT: Do not allow the tool to come in contact with the pipes while unlocking the cam lock ring.
  3. Rotate the cam lock ring counter-clockwise using J 45722  . See Special Tools and Equipment .
  4. Remove the cam lock ring.

  6. Carefully lift the fuel tank module from the fuel tank, enough to access the quick connect fittings below the module cover.
  7. Squeeze the quick connect fittings (1) in order to disengage them from the module cover. Refer to Quick Connect Fitting(s) Service (Plastic Collar) .
  8. Remove the fuel tank module from the fuel tank.
  9. Remove and discard the fuel tank module seal.
