Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2004 GMC Yukon XL, 2004 GMC Yukon, 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2004 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2004 Cadillac Escalade EXT. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT: The thermostat is not serviceable separately. The thermostat housing (water pump inlet) and thermostat must be replaced as an assembly.

  1. Remove the radiator outlet hose. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement - Outlet (4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L Engines)  or Radiator Hose Replacement - Outlet (Utility 8.1L Engine)  or Radiator Hose Replacement - Outlet (Avalanche/XLT 8.1L) .
  2. Remove the water pump inlet bolts.
  3. Remove the water pump inlet from the water pump.
