Brake Warning Indicator Always On

  1. Did you review the brake warning system circuit description and perform the necessary inspections? If so, go to next step. If not, go to BRAKE WARNING SYSTEM DESCRIPTION  under DESCRIPTION & OPERATION.
  2. With the ignition switch ON, observe the brake warning indicator and perform a brake warning system test by meeting each of the conditions described in BRAKE WARNING SYSTEM DESCRIPTION  under DESCRIPTION & OPERATION. Did the brake indicator illuminate and turn off for each condition? If so, malfunction is intermittent. If not, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect the brake fluid level switch connector. Did the brake indicator turn off? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step  5 .
  4. Replace the brake fluid reservoir (which contains the fluid level switch). See MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to step  11 .
  5. Disconnect the Daytime Running Light (DRL) control module connector. Did the brake indicator turn off? If so, go to step  7 . If not, go to next step.
  6. Repair the short to ground in the brake indicator control circuit. Did you correct the condition? If so, go to step  11 .
  7. Disconnect the park brake switch connector. Test the park brake signal circuit for a short to ground. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  11 . If not, go to next step.
  8. Test the park brake switch for a short to ground. Did you find the condition? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step  10 .
  9. Replace the park brake switch. See PARK BRAKE SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to step  11 .
  10. Replace the Daytime Running Lights (DRL) control module. DRL control module is located under instrument panel, to right of steering column. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to next step.
  11. Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If so, system is okay. If not, go to step  3 .
