Drum Brake Adjustment

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Remove the rear wheels and tires.
  2. Remove the rear drums. See BRAKE DRUM  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Set the Drum-to-Brake Shoe Clearance Gage (J-21177-A) so that the gage contacts the inside diameter of the drum at the widest point.
  4. Position the drum-to-brake clearance gage over the shoes at the widest point.
  5. Turn the adjuster nut until the shoes just contact the drum-to-brake clearance gage.
  6. Repeat steps  2- 5 for the other rear brake assembly.
  7. Install the rear drums. See BRAKE DRUM  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  8. Install the rear wheels and tires. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Lower the vehicle.
