Test I: Brake Fluid Loss
- If sent here from SYMPTOM INDEX table, go to next step. If not sent here from SYMPTOM INDEX table, perform HYDRAULIC BRAKE DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Inspect the hydraulic brake system for proper operation. See HYDRAULIC SYSTEM TEST under SYSTEM TESTS. If problem was found and corrected, go to step 7. If problem was not found, go to next step.
- Inspect the disc brake system for proper operation. See DISC BRAKE SYSTEM TEST under SYSTEM TESTS. If problem was found and corrected, go to step 7. If problem was not found, go to next step.
- Inspect the drum brake system for proper operation. See DRUM BRAKE SYSTEM TEST under SYSTEM TESTS. If problem was found and corrected, go to step 7. If problem was not found, go to next step.
- Separate the master cylinder from the vacuum brake booster. DO NOT disconnect any brake pipes. See MASTER CYLINDER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Inspect the rear of the master cylinder for a brake fluid leak. Inspect for brake fluid in the vacuum brake booster. If there is a brake fluid leak, go to next step. If there is not a brake fluid leak, perform HYDRAULIC BRAKE DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Replace the brake master cylinder and the vacuum brake booster. See MASTER CYLINDER and VACUUM BRAKE BOOSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After replacement, go to next step.
- Install or connect components that were removed or disconnected during diagnosis. Road test the vehicle in order to confirm proper operation. See VEHICLE ROAD TEST under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If problem is still present, go to step 2. If problem is not present, system is okay.
