Wheel Cylinders: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  2. Remove the brake drum. See BRAKE DRUM .
  3. Remove the brake shoes. See BRAKE SHOES .
  4. Clean the dirt and foreign material around the wheel cylinder. Remove the bleeder valve. See Fig 1.
    NOTE: Install a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake pipe fitting ends in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
  5. Disconnect the brake pipe fitting from the wheel cylinder. Plug the open brake pipe ends.
  6. Remove the wheel cylinder mounting bolts. Remove the wheel cylinder.
