Park Brake Pedal Assembly: Removal

  1. Remove the left closeout/insulator panel.
    • Remove the push pins from the left half of the sound insulator on the drivers side and remove from the instrument panel (I/P) carrier. See Figure.
    • Remove the bolts from the right half of the sound insulator on the drivers side and remove from the I/P carrier.
  2. Starting at the rear edge, pull the floor carpet retainer upward in order to disengage the retaining clips. Remove the left carpet retainer. Position the carpet aside.
  3. Remove the PCM and bracket. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS in REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION - MALIBU article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  4. Remove the park brake pedal assembly nuts. See Fig 1. Remove the park brake pedal assembly.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connection from the pedal assembly. Remove the park brake cable from the pedal attachment point.
  6. Using the Parking Brake Cable Release Tool (J-37043), remove the cable from the park brake pedal at attachment point.
