Park Brake Pedal Assembly: Installation

  1. Connect the park brake cable at attachment points and to the park brake pedal. See Figure. Connect the electrical connection to the pedal assembly.
  2. Install the park brake pedal assembly. Tighten the park brake pedal assembly nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Install the left closeout/insulator panel.
    • Install the right half of the sound insulator on the drivers side to the instrument panel (I/P) carrier and install the bolts to the sound insulator. See Figure. Tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
    • Install the left half of the sound insulator on the drivers side to the I/P carrier and install the push pin.
  4. Install the PCM and bracket. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS in REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION - MALIBU article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  5. Position the left carpet. Install the left carpet retainer.
  6. Parking brake adjustment is not necessary. This is a self adjusting system and damage may result from attempting to adjust or modify this system in any way. It may be necessary to adjust the rear brakes to obtain the proper tension in the system. See DRUM BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS.
