Front Park Brake Cable: Removal
- Remove the left closeout/insulator panel. Remove the push pins from the left half of the sound insulator on the drivers side and remove from the instrument panel (I/P) carrier. See Figure. Remove the bolts from the right half of the sound insulator on the drivers side and remove from the I/P carrier.
- Starting at the rear edge, pull the floor carpet retainer upward in order to disengage the retaining clips. Remove the left carpet retainer. Position the carpet aside.
- Remove the PCM and bracket. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE
under COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS in REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION - MALIBU article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Remove the park brake lever to gain access to the brake cable attachment points. See Figure. Remove the park brake cable from the park brake lever.
- Remove the carpet from the left side of the vehicle.
- Remove the front seats. See appropriate POWER SEATS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
- Remove the console assembly. Fold the console compartment up. Remove the rear cupholder from the center console. Remove the console trim plate.
- Position the gear selector to the neutral position. Remove the gear selector knob retainer, using a small flat-bladed tool. See Fig 1. Remove the gear selector knob, by pulling upward.
- Release the front floor console trim plate retainers, using a flat bladed tool. Remove the front floor console trim plate from the front floor console. See Fig 2.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors from the front floor console trim plate.
Remove the console screws from center console. See Fig 3. Remove center console from vehicle.
- Starting at the rear edge, pull the floor carpet retainers upward in order to disengage the retaining clips. Remove the driver's and passenger's side floor carpet retainer.
- Remove the body lock pillar trim.
- If equipped with split/folding rear seat back, remove the rear seat back bolster from the vehicle.
- If equipped with a stationary rear seat back, remove the rear seat back from the vehicle.
- If necessary, remove the rerouter retainer from the children shoulder belt.
- Remove the lock pillar trim panel retainer. See Fig 4. Remove the lock pillar lower trim panel by disengaging the tabs from the clips.
- Remove the center pillar lower trim panel. See Fig 5.
- Remove the front shoulder belt anchor bolts from the floor pan.
- Remove the rear seat cushion. Disengage the rear seat cushion retainer pressing rearward using a flat-bladed tool. Remove the rear seat cushion by lifting upward and out.
- Remove the floor carpet.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the front cable at the connector clip. Remove the cable retainer from the underbody. Remove the cable from the vehicle.
