Front Park Brake Cable: Installation

Connect the park brake cable to the vehicle. Connect the cable retainer to the vehicle. Tighten the cable retainer bolt to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
Connect the park brake cable at the connector clip. Lower the vehicle. Parking brake adjustment is not necessary. This is a self adjusting system and damage may result from attempting to adjust or modify this system in any way. It may be necessary to adjust the rear brakes to obtain the proper tension in the system. See DRUM BRAKE ADJUSTMENT under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS.
Install the park brake cable to the park brake lever. See Figure. Install the park brake pedal and nuts.
Install the PCM and bracket. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS in REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION - MALIBU article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
WARNING: In order to avoid personal injury or vehicle damage when you repair or replace the carpet, use the same thickness and material size as the original installation. Always return the carpet to the original location.
Install the carpet to the left side of the vehicle.
1. Install the floor carpet.
2. Install the rear seat cushion. Position the rear seat cushion under the seat back and over the retainers. Press downward on the rear seat cushion in order to latch the retainer.
3. Install the front shoulder belt anchor bolts to the floor pan.
4. Install the center pillar lower trim panel. See Figure.
5. Install the body lock pillar trim.
  - Align and engage the pillar lower trim panel tabs to the clips. Apply pressure to the pillar lower trim panel in order to engage the tabs. See Figure.
  - Install the lock pillar lower trim panel retainer.
  - Install the rerouter retainer to the children shoulder belt.
  - Install the rear seat back bolster to the vehicle.
6. Install the floor carpet retainers.
7. Install the console assembly into the vehicle. See Figure. Install the console screws into the center console. Tighten the screws to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Install the console trim plate.
  - Connect the electrical connectors to the front floor console trim plate.
  - Align the front floor console trim plate retainers to the slots in the front floor console. Install the front floor console trim plate, pressing into place until fully seated. See Figure.
  - Position the gear selector knob to the shift lever. Install the gear selector knob retainer, pressing into place until fully seated. See Figure. Reposition the gear selector to the PARK position.
  Install the rear cupholder to the center console.
8. Install the front seats. See appropriate POWER SEATS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
Install the left carpet retainer.
Install the left sound insulator.
1. Install the right half of the sound insulator on the drivers side to the instrument panel (I/P) carrier and install the bolts to the sound insulator. See Figure. Tighten the bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
2. Install the left half of the sound insulator on the drivers side to the I/P carrier and install the push pin.
