Drum Brake Backing Plate: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
  2. Remove the brake drum. See BRAKE DRUM  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Remove the brake shoes. See BRAKE SHOES  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Remove the universal spring.
  5. Remove the wheel cylinder. See WHEEL CYLINDERS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  6. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the backing plate.
  7. Remove the rear wheel hub. See appropriate REAR SUSPENSION article in SUSPENSION.
  8. Remove the backing plate.
