Brake Shoes: Installation

  1. Connect the park brake lever to the brake shoe and install the retaining clip. See Figure.
  2. Position the hook end of the brake shoe spanner and spring remover under the universal spring and lightly pull the universal spring end out while installing the brake shoe. See Figure. Ensure that the universal spring properly engages the brake shoe web hole. Repeat on other wheel.
  3. Use the brake shoe spanner and spring remover to spread the top of the brake shoes to install the adjuster assembly and the adjuster lever to the brake shoe. See Figure.
  4. Install the adjuster spring. Adjust the drum brake system. See DRUM BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS. Install the brake drum. See BRAKE DRUM .
  5. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Lower the vehicle.
