Drum Brake Hardware Inspection

  1. Visually inspect the drum brake system universal spring for the following:
    • Bent or damaged.
    • Broken or excessive corrosion.
    • Excessive stretching.
    • Twisting or binding.
  2. If any of the conditions listed are found, the brake drum system hardware requires replacement. See DRUM BRAKE HARDWARE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Visually inspect the park brake lever for the following:
    • Bent.
    • Broken pivot.
    • Broken at park brake cable attachment.
  4. If any of the conditions listed were found, the park brake lever and/or attaching hardware requires replacement.
