Removal Procedure
CAUTION:
Refer to BATTERY DISCONNECT CAUTION
in Cautions and Notices.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
- Remove the defroster grille. Refer to DEFROSTER GRILLE REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the outer trim covers. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) OUTER TRIM COVER REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the instrument panel (I/P) compartment.
- Remove the passenger side SIR inflator module.
- Remove the left front and right front sound insulators. Refer to CLOSEOUT/INSULATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT - RIGHT and CLOSEOUT/INSULATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT - LEFT .
- Remove the steering wheel. Refer to STEERING WHEEL REPLACEMENT in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Remove the multifunction switch. Refer to MULTIFUNCTION, TURN SIGNAL SWITCH REPLACEMENT in Steering Wheel and Column.
- Remove the I/P cluster trim plate. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) CLUSTER .
- Remove the I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to TRIM PLATE REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) ACCESSORY .
- Remove the I/P cluster. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the HVAC controls. Refer to HVAC MODULE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT in HVAC Systems-Manual.
- Remove the remote cassette player, if equipped.
Refer to REMOTE CASSETTE PLAYER REPLACEMENT in Entertainment.
- Remove the radio. Refer to RADIO REPLACEMENT in Entertainment.
- Remove the ignition switch bolts. Refer to IGNITION SWITCH REPLACEMENT .
- Disconnect the outboard electrical connectors from the I/P wiring harness junction blocks.
Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL ELECTRICAL CENTER OR JUNCTION BLOCK REPLACEMENT in Wiring Systems.
- Remove the center console. Pull the console rearward in order to disengage the console from the I/P. Refer to CONSOLE REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the ashtray from the I/P carrier.
- Remove the screws (2,3,4) connecting the I/P carrier (1) to the cross vehicle beam (6).
- Remove the I/P carrier (1) from the cross vehicle beam (6).
