Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in SIR.
  2. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) trim pad. Refer to TRIM PAD REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) (CHEVROLET)  or TRIM PAD REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) (PONTIAC)  .
  3. Remove the screws (1) from the I/P accessory trim plate (3).
  4. Remove the I/P trim plate (3). Pull rearward in order to disengage the retainers (2).
  5. Disconnect the electrical connectors for the headlamp dimmer switch.
  6. Disconnect the electrical connector for the cigar lighter, if equipped.
