Installation Procedure

  1. Place the I/P carrier (3) into the vehicle.
  2. Install the I/P carrier (3) to the lower tie bar (1).
    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  3. Install the screws (2) to I/P carrier (3).

    Tighten 

    Tighten the screws to 2.3 N.m (20 lb in).

  4. Install the washer switch. Refer to WIPERS/WASHER SWITCH REPLACEMENT in Wipers/Washer Systems.
  5. Install the tilt lever. Refer to TILT LEVER REPLACEMENT in Steering Wheel and Column.
  6. Install the steering wheel. Refer to STEERING WHEEL REPLACEMENT in Steering Wheel and Column.
  7. Install the air distribution duct.

  8. Install the screws for the air distribution duct.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the screw to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

  9. Install the radio to the I/P carrier. Refer to RADIO REPLACEMENT in Entertainment.
  10. Install the HVAC control. Refer to HVAC Control Assembly Replacement (Chevrolet)  or HVAC Control Assembly Replacement (Pontiac)  in HVAC Systems-Manual.
  11. Install the I/P cluster trim plate. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) REPLACEMENT (CHEVROLET)  or INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) REPLACEMENT (PONTIAC)  .
  12. Install the I/P SIR module. Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL INFLATABLE RESTRAINT SYSTEM in SIR.
  13. Install the I/P trim pad. Refer to TRIM PAD REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) (CHEVROLET)  or TRIM PAD REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) (PONTIAC)  .
  14. Enable the SIR system. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in SIR.
  15. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE in Engine Electrical.
