Drum Brake Adjusting Hardware: Installation

  1. Install the adjuster actuator lever. Install the straight end of the adjuster spring to the brake shoe. Install the hook end of the adjuster spring to the adjuster actuator lever.
  2. Inspect the adjuster for proper engagement with the drum brake system components. See Figure . Ensure that the adjuster engages the brake shoes and, the park brake actuator, and the adjuster actuator properly.
  3. Adjust the drum brakes. See DRUM BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS. Install the brake drum. Install the rear wheel and tire. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Lower the vehicle.
