Brake Backing Plate: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Remove the tire and wheel. Remove the brake drum. See BRAKE DRUM  . Remove the brake shoes. See BRAKE SHOES  .
  2. Remove the park brake actuator from the park brake cable. Remove the park brake cable ONLY from the backing plate. See REAR PARK BRAKE CABLE  . Remove the wheel cylinder. See WHEEL CYLINDER  . Remove the wheel bearing/hub. See appropriate REAR SUSPENSION article in SUSPENSION. Remove the backing plate.
