Master Cylinder: Installation

  1. Bench bleed the master cylinder. See MASTER CYLINDER BENCH BLEEDING  under BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM.
  2. Install the master cylinder to the brake booster. See Figure . Install the 2 master cylinder mounting nuts and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Lubricate NEW grommets with Delco(R) Supreme 11, (12377967 US; 992667 Canada), or equivalent DOT-3 brake fluid. See Figure . Press fit the grommets to the master cylinder, and seat the grommets in place. Install the reservoir to the master cylinder.
    4. NOTE: On models that utilize a pin to retain the reservoir, insert the reservoir pin until both of its ends at the right and the left of the reservoir become the same length.
  4. Install the reservoir pin or the screw, as applicable. Install the reservoir diaphragm.
  5. Connect brake pipes and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Fill the reservoir. See MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR FILLING  under BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM.
  6. Install the reservoir cap. Inspect for fluid leakage.
  7. Connect the reservoir fluid level connector.
