Disabling System

WARNING: Accidental air bag deployment is possible. Personal injury may result. Read and follow service precautions. See AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
NOTE: When AIR BAG fuse is removed and ignition is on, AIR BAG warning light will be on. This is a normal condition and does not indicate a system malfunction.
  1. Turn steering wheel to place vehicle wheels in straight-ahead position. Turn ignition off and remove key.
  2. Remove AIR BAG fuse from inline fuse holder, located near base of steering column. Remove steering column opening trim plate. Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) clip from driver-side air bag module Yellow 2-pin connector, located at base of steering column. See Fig 1. Disconnect connector.
  3. Open glove box. Push in on left and right stoppers and allow glove box to swing open past stops. See Fig 2. Remove CPA clip from passenger-side air bag module Yellow 2-pin connector, located behind glove box. See Fig 3. Disconnect connector.
