Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the master cylinder reservoir. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Replacement .
  2. Remove the master cylinder from the vehicle. Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement .
  3. Place the master cylinder in a vise.
  4. Using a screwdriver, push the pistons in all the way.

  5. Remove the following components:
    • The piston stopper bolt
    • The gasket
    • The snap ring

  6. Place a rag and 2 wooden blocks on the work area.
  7. Lightly tap the cylinder flange against the block edges until the piston drops out of the cylinder.

  8. Clean the following components using clean brake fluid:
    • The inside of the reservoir
    • The outside of the reservoir
    • The master cylinder body
    • The master cylinder internal parts
  9. Dry all of the parts using dry, compressed air.
  10. Inspect the reservoir and the cap for the following conditions:
    • Cuts
    • Cracks
    • Deformation
  11. Inspect the master cylinder body for scoring or corrosion. Replace the master cylinder if scoring or corrosion is evident.
  12. Inspect the master cylinder internal parts for wear. Replace the parts as necessary.
