Installation Procedure

Important:  Replacement internal parts for the master cylinder are available only as a complete piston set. Replace all of the master cylinder internal parts as a set.

  1. Coat all of the parts using clean brake fluid.
  2. Install the piston into the master cylinder.
  3. Compress the piston into the master cylinder bore.
  4. Install the snap ring.

    NOTE: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
  5. Install the piston stopper bolt and the gasket.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the piston stopper bolt to 10 N.m (89 in lbs).

  6. Install the master cylinder reservoir to the master cylinder. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Replacement .
  7. Install the master cylinder assembly to the vehicle. Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement .
