Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE .
  2. Remove the front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  3. If the vehicle has an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), remove the bolt (2) for the ABS wheel speed sensor and the sensor (1) from the steering knuckle. Position the sensor to the side.

  4. Remove the front brake hose bolt and the hose from the strut. Position the hose and the bolt to the side.
  5. Remove the front brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement .
  6. Remove the steering knuckle from the vehicle. Refer to STEERING KNUCKLE REPLACEMENT . It is not necessary to remove the front ball joint from the steering knuckle in order to remove the brake shield.
  7. Clamp the steering knuckle in a soft jawed vise.
  8. Remove the inner seal shield from the steering knuckle.

  9. Remove the inner oil seal from the steering knuckle using the J 26941 and the J 25907.

  11. Remove the front wheel bearing retainer from the steering knuckle using snap ring pliers.
  12. Remove the 3 brake shield bolts from the steering knuckle using a TORX® wrench (T30).
  13. Remove the hub and the brake shield from the steering knuckle using the J 25287 and the J 35378.
  14. Remove the brake shield from the hub.
