Removal Procedure

- Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Remove the right front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
- Remove the right engine splash shield. Refer to Splash Shield Replacement - Engine - Right in Body Front End.
- Support the frame with jackstands.
- Loosen the left side and remove the right side frame bolts. Refer to Frame Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
- Use the jackstands to lower the right side of the frame.
- Remove the torque converter covers.
- Install the J 37096 to prevent the flywheel from rotating. See Special Tools .
- Remove the crankshaft balancer bolt and the washer.
- Use the J 24420-C to remove the crankshaft balancer. See Special Tools .
NOTE:
The inertial weight section of the crankshaft balancer is assembled to the hub with a rubber type material. The correct installation procedures (with the proper tool) must be followed or movement of the inertial weight section of the hub will destroy the tuning of the crankshaft balancer.
