Test H: Driver Information Center (DIC) Compass Inaccurate Or Cal Is Displayed

  1. Perform driver information center system diagnostic system check. See DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If driver information center system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step.
  2. Observe DIC. If compass is inaccurate, or CAL or C is displayed, go to next step. If compass is not inaccurate, or CAL or C is not displayed, check for intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  . Repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to step  8 .
  3. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe DIC. If compass display is not blank, go to next step. If compass display is blank, go to step  7 .
  4. If compass displays CAL, go to next step. If compass does not display CAL, go to step  6 .
  5. Perform compass calibration procedure. See COMPASS CALIBRATION  under PROGRAMMING. If compass operation is okay, go to step  8 . If compass operation is not okay, go to next step.
  6. Perform compass magnetic variation adjustment procedure. See COMPASS MAGNETIC VARIATION ADJUSTMENT  under PROGRAMMING. If compass operation is okay, go to step  8 . If compass operation is not okay, go to next step.
  7. Replace DIC and calibrate compass. See DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER (DIC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Go to next step.
  8. Operate system to verify repair. If system operates normally, repair is complete. If system does not operate normally, return to step  2 .
