Test E: Coolant Temperature Gauge Inaccurate Or Inoperative

  1. Perform instrument panel cluster system diagnostic system check. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If instrument panel cluster system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, perform COOLANT GAGE SWEEP TEST. If engine coolant temperature gauge move up and down on command, check for intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS  . Repair or replace as necessary. After repair, go to step  4 . If engine coolant temperature gauge does not move up and down on command, go to next step.
  3. Replace Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, go to next step.
  4. Operate system to verify repair. If system operates normally, repair is complete. If system does not operate normally, return to step  2 .
