Parking Brake Shoes: Installation

  1. Assemble the park brake shoe to the actuator. Install the park brake shoe and actuator onto the backing plate. Position the park brake shoe, actuator, and backing plate over the rear hub. See Fig 2 . Install the park brake cable bracket and the 2 retainers. Tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Install the rear hub. See REAR AXLE HUB & BEARING ASSEMBLY  . The rear hub, backing plate, park brake cable bracket, and park brake actuator will be installed as an assembly. Tighten all fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  2. Install and connect the rear park brake cable to the bracket at the rear wheel. Connect the park brake cable return spring to the park brake actuator and bracket at the rear wheel. Install the rear rotor. See BRAKE ROTORS  . Install the rear caliper bracket. See BRAKE CALIPERS  . Lower the vehicle. Adjust parking brake. See PARKING BRAKE ADJUSTMENT  in PARK BRAKE SYSTEM under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS.
