Filler Tube: Removal

  1. On 2.2L models, remove the bolt securing the dipstick to the exhaust manifold. See Figure. On all models, remove the transmission oil level indicator.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Support the transmission and transfer case (if equipped) with a suitable jack. Remove the transmission cross member. See Figure. On 4.3L models, remove the exhaust manifold pipe.
  3. Remove the rear propeller shaft. See appropriate DRIVE SHAFTS & UNIVERSAL JOINTS article in DRIVE AXLES. On all models, lower the transmission to gain access to the bolt securing the filler tube to the transmission torque converter housing, and remove bolt. Remove the filler tube and seal from the vehicle. See Figure.
