Test H: Blower Motor Noise

NOTE:
Definition: Noise originating from the blower motor.
- Did you review the DESCRIPTION & OPERATION and perform SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS? If so, go to next step. If not, see SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Sit inside the vehicle. Close the vehicle doors and windows. Turn ignition on. Cycle the blower motor through all of the speeds and modes in order to determine where and when the noise occurs. Is a noise evident during the blower operation? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 10.
- Does the noise vary with the blower speed? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 10.
- Inspect for excessive vibration at each blower motor speed by feeling the blower case. Is excess vibration present? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 10.
- Remove the blower motor. See BLOWER MOTOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Inspect the blower motor for deposits of foreign material. Did you find any foreign material on the blower motor? If so, go to step 7. If not, go to next step.
- Inspect the blower motor for cracked impeller blades, loose impeller retainer or improper impeller alignment. Did you find any of these conditions? If so, go to step 8. If not, go to step 9.
- Remove the foreign material. After repairs are complete, go to step 10.
- Replace the blower motor. See BLOWER MOTOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step 10.
- Install the blower motor. See BLOWER MOTOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are complete, go to step 10.
- Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Does the system operate correctly? If so, system is okay. If not, go to step 2.
