Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Raise the transmission using the transmission jack.
  2. Place the fuel line retainers on top of the transmission.
  3. Install the transmission to the engine.
    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  4. Install the transmission to engine bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the transmission to engine bolts to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).

  5. Install the bolt, the washer and the nut securing the wiring harness ground wires to the engine block.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the ground wire nut and bolt to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).

  6. Install the wiring harness to the front crossmember.
  7. Install the clutch housing cover to the transmission.
  8. Install the clutch housing cover bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the clutch housing cover bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  9. Install the transmission support.
  10. Remove the transmission jack from the transmission.
  11. Install the hydraulic clutch line to the concentric slave cylinder quick connect.
  12. Install the transfer case if equipped. Refer to TRANSFER CASE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT in TRANSFER CASE article.
  13. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT (2.2L) , CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT (PICKUP 4.3L) or CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT (UTILITY 4.3L) in ENGINE EXHAUST article.

  14. Install the wiring harness retainers to the right side of the transmission
  15. Connect the back up switch electrical connector.
  16. Connect the vehicle speed sensor electrical connector.

  17. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to PROPELLER SHAFT REPLACEMENT - ONE PIECE or PROPELLER SHAFT REPLACEMENT - TWO PIECE in PROPELLER SHAFT article.
  18. Fill the transmission fluid. Refer to FLUID REPLACEMENT .
  19. Lower the vehicle.
  20. Install the shift tower. Refer to SHIFT TOWER REPLACEMENT .
  21. Bleed the clutch system. Refer to BLEEDING in CLUTCH article.
