Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. 2:  This step tests for proper reference voltage to the transfer case shift control module on the 4WD LO circuit.
  2. 3:  This step tests the 4WD LO circuit for a short to voltage.
  3. 4:  This step tests the 4WD LO circuit for an open or high resistance.
  4. 5:  This step repairs the 4WD LO circuit for a short to voltage.

1 Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Transfer Case? - Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Transfer Case 
  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the transfer case shift control module.
  3. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  4. Measure the voltage between the 4WD LO circuit harness and ground.
Is the voltage reading within the specified values?
10-13.5 V Go to Step 3  Go to Step 4 
  1. Disconnect the PCM, ECM, and TCM, if equipped.
  2. Measure the voltage between the 4WD LO circuit harness and ground.
Is the voltage reading at the specified value?
0 V Go to Step 7  Go to Step 5 
Test the 4WD LO circuit for an open, high resistance, or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 8  Go to Step 6 
Repair the 4WD LO circuit for short to voltage. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

- Go to Step 8  -
6 Replace the PCM for 6.0L or 8.1L or replace the ECM for 6.6L LLY. Refer to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Replacement in Engine Controls - 4.8L, 5.3L, and 6.0L or Engine Control Module (ECM) Replacement in Engine Controls - 6.6L or Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Replacement in Engine Controls - 8.1L.

- Go to Step 8  -
7 Replace the transfer case shift control module. Refer to Transfer Case Shift Control Module Replacement  and Transfer Case Control Module Reprogramming .

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
  2. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC as specified in the supporting text.
Does the DTC set?
- Go to Step 2  System OK
