Removal Procedure

- Remove the steering gear from the vehicle. Refer to Power Steering Gear Replacement (Rack and Pinion) or Power Steering Gear Replacement (Non Rack and Pinion) .
- Rotate stub shaft back and forth to drain the power steering fluid.
- Place J 42882
over the end of the stub shaft. Slide J 43435 over the top of J 42882
. Use a torque wrench to remove the lock nut from the steering gear housing.
J 43435 reverses to work with all available lock nut assemblies.
- Using J 42882 , remove the adjuster nut assembly from the steering gear housing.
- Remove the thrust bearing support from the steering gear housing.
Discard the thrust bearing support.
