Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the energy storage box (ESB). Refer to Energy Storage Box (ESB) Service Disconnect/Connect (5.3L Engine w/RPO HP2) .
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Single Battery)  or Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (Auxiliary Battery) .

  4. Unsnap the positive battery cable cap.
  5. Disconnect the positive battery cable.

  7. Remove the left fender to cowl support brace bolts and brace.
  8. Remove the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC) cover.

    IMPORTANT: The bolt is integral to the battery cable and is not removable.
  10. Loosen the positive battery cable bolt at the UBEC.
  11. Remove the positive cable from the UBEC.
  12. Remove the nut at the UBEC.
  13. Remove the positive cable from the UBEC.

  15. Remove the harness clip bolt (1) from the junction block bracket.
  16. Remove the junction block from the bracket.

  18. Loosen the 14V positive/negative battery cable bolt (1).

  20. Remove the red connector position assurance (CPA) retainer.
  21. Disconnect the 14V positive/negative battery cable.
  22. Remove the 14V positive/negative cable clips (1) from the frame.

  24. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  25. Remove the engine wiring harness ground/negative cable bolt (2).
  26. Reposition the wiring harness ground (3) and battery cable ground (1).
  27. Remove the forward lamp wiring harness ground/negative cable bolt (6).
  28. Reposition the ground wire (5) and forward lamp harness ground (7).
  29. Remove the battery cable channel bolt (4).

  31. Remove the starter harness branch clips from the battery channel.
  32. Slide the channel pin out of the oil pan tab.
  33. Lower the vehicle.
  34. Remove the 14V positive/negative battery cable.
